URBAN OUTFITTERS:
Heuristic Evaluation & Application Redesign
In response to an RFP, our team created a proposal which included a heuristic evaluation of Urban Outfitter's native mobile app on iOS using the Nielsen Norman Group's 10 principles for interaction design. Our team identified 9 heuristic violations, and provided a detailed guide to what these violations are and an application redesign to remedy these violations.
Duration: 12 Days
Team: Emily Li, Osbert Ding
Role: UX Designer
Tool: Figma
Method: Jakob Nielsen's 10 Usability Heuristics
Part 1: Heuristic Evaluation
Part 2: Application Redesign
Our team did not have access to Urban Outfitters’ official brand UI library and lacked concrete guidelines for the use of color, typography, and style.
The fonts utilized on the desktop website and the native mobile app were inconsistent, and we resorted to choosing close alternatives in the redesign.
All branding design decisions were made based on our interpretations of the current branding elements on the desktop website and iOS mobile app.
Next Steps
Complete a high fidelity prototype and conduct further usability and A/B testing of the redesigned pages.
Analyze and measure the testing insights collected to validate the design decisions.
Recommendations
Conduct at least two rounds of usability tests with at least five participants per round to ensure there are enough variety in real life user insights.
After the usability of the design has been tested and approved, implement the design on the Urban Outfitters native mobile app (iOS).
Additionally, consider conducting A/B testing to identify the maximum impact.
